MEMBERSHIP OF KVS – WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Like most organisations which provide services to voluntary and community groups, KVS is a membership organisation. This means our members have an important role in determining what KVS is all about, and what direction it should take. Members elect a management committee to run KVS on their behalf, and KVS is accountable to its members.

We value our members enormously, they represent a wide range of organisations, communities and interests, and they give KVS credibility and a sounding board. There are some basic criteria for membership, and two categories - full and associate - depending on what sort of organisation you are. Membership means you are showing your support for, and interest in, KVS and at the same time will have special benefits in relation to KVS services.

It’s free – and you get a copy of the respected monthly newsletter Briefing Bradford produced by Bradford CVS (as well as our own mail shots). Currently we have over 50 full members and we would really like to increase this number to reflect the amazingly active and diverse range of community groups in the local area. Your input DOES affect the way KVS operates, thinks, plans and tries to respond to local needs

This year we want to hear more about what members think about our services and how we can improve them. This is an exciting time in KVS’ history, with a larger team of staff working in local communities than we have had for some time - so we want to make the most of it!

What does KVS do?

• Sends a quarterly local newsletter to over 250 groups and individuals
• Provides practical support such as cheap photocopying, meeting space, information and advice
• Co-ordinates local networks and meetings of people and groups in the Keighley area – for lots of different reasons such as: discussing a local issue and looking for collective solutions; creating a new initiative; training and workshops on legislation that affects voluntary and community organisations; Funding Forum (in partnership with Area Co-ordinator’s Office)
• Provides funding advice and information, helps local groups to develop their projects and own organisations
• Supports organisations in crisis
• Links local communities and groups to district-wide initiatives and partnerships and strengthens the local voice
• Shares a huge range of information between public sector agencies and local groups
• Works hard at district, regional and national level to protect and promote the interests of local communities
• Staff and trustees are involved in a wide range of partnerships and networks – and we should be taking your views with us, feeding back, and supporting others to get involved
• We work closely with other CVS and organisations who support local groups – and ensure that their services come to Keighley
